when the sky leaks

someone must have pissed the weather god cos Zeus unleashed his fury on sch grounds for a full 30 mins yesterday. we got the full effect of it; strong winds, sheets of rain, thunder, lightning. everything. and of all days, i had to pick today for librarian duty...

would u like to know how crap the sch is? i'll tell u how crap it is. the closed hallways were soaking wet cos rain came in from the high windows, the roof of the motorcycle shack blew off onto the road n left a gaping hole drenching the motorcycles beneath, wires were blown off their poles, the pavillion's metal roof also got yanked by the winds into the field plus u could literally see the some roof that remained flapping precariously waiting to fly away... oh n a black plastic dustbin got blown like 4m from where it was supposed to be... on the way out, the car had to cross overhanging wires n crunch thru the pieces of roof on the road.

then when i got to sch this morning, i had to cross a DABBLING BROOK to reach school. No, im not exaggerating. it dabbled, it did.

the wires were still strewn across the floor and the motorcycle shack n pavillion remained partially roof-ed with folded bits on top. very pathetic.

and so u assume the worst is over, ya? hell no.

the class is practically drowning cos we didnt close the windows. the tables which had these slots on the top for putting pencils were brimming with rainwater, the chair's concave part for ur butt was also collecting water n needless to say, the floor could slip up an elephant... i'm telling u, theres nothing more fucked up than studyin in a wet class. my place is actually in the middle of the class which is mayb 1.5m from the windows n everything was wet. wet wet wet.

as if wet wasn't enough, out of the 3 fans, the fan above me got short-circuited or something n it doesn't work anymore plus one of the old oscillating wall fans even fell off the wall n crashed onto our mag table.

never in my 12 years of school life have i ever, EVER studied in a drenching wet classroom. seriously. it's not like i live in some ulu place where it floods during monsoon or anything. it was at most 2hours of heavy rain! gawd... even some of the trees they just planted along Era got uprooted n blown over.

true story.

The Cremation of Sam McGee

another vyvy nicely narrated poem... i can't embed tho, so click here to watch k?!

The Cremation of Sam McGee
by Robert W. Service

There are strange things done in the midnight sun
By the men who moil for gold;
The Arctic trails have their secret tales
That would make your blood run cold;
The Northern Lights have seen queer sights,
But the queerest they ever did see
Was that night on the marge of Lake Lebarge
I cremated Sam McGee.

Now Sam McGee was from Tennessee, where the cotton blooms and blows.
Why he left his home in the South to roam ‘round the Pole, God only knows.
He was always cold, but the land of gold seemed to hold him like a spell;
Though he’d often say in his homely way that “he’d sooner live in hell.”

On a Christmas Day we were mushing our way over the Dawson trail.
Talk of your cold! through the parka’s fold it stabbed like a driven nail.
If our eyes we’d close, then the lashes froze till sometimes we couldn’t see;
It wasn’t much fun, but the only one to whimper was Sam McGee.

And that very night, as we lay packed tight in our robes beneath the snow,
And the dogs were fed, and the stars o’erhead were dancing heel and toe,
He turned to me, and “Cap,” says he, “I’ll cash in this trip, I guess;
And if I do, I’m asking that you won’t refuse my last request.”

Well, he seemed so low that I couldn’t say no; then he says with a sort of moan:
“It’s the cursed cold, and it’s got right hold till I’m chilled clean through to the bone.
Yet ‘taint being dead—it’s my awful dread of the icy grave that pains;
So I want you to swear that, foul or fair, you’ll cremate my last remains.”

A pal’s last need is a thing to heed, so I swore I would not fail;
And we started on at the streak of dawn; but God! he looked ghastly pale.
He crouched on the sleigh, and he raved all day of his home in Tennessee;
And before nightfall a corpse was all that was left of Sam McGee.

There wasn’t a breath in that land of death, and I hurried, horror-driven,
With a corpse half hid that I couldn’t get rid, because of a promise given;
It was lashed to the sleigh, and it seemed to say: “You may tax your brawn and brains,
But you promised true, and it’s up to you to cremate those last remains.”

Now a promise made is a debt unpaid, and the trail has its own stern code.
In the days to come, though my lips were dumb, in my heart how I cursed that load.
In the long, long night, by the lone firelight, while the huskies, round in a ring,
Howled out their woes to the homeless snows—O God! how I loathed the thing.

And every day that quiet clay seemed to heavy and heavier grow;
And on I went, though the dogs were spent and the grub was getting low;
The trail was bad, and I felt half mad, but I swore I would not give in;
And I’d often sing to the hateful thing, and it hearkened with a grin.

Till I came to the marge of Lake Lebarge, and a derelict there lay;
It was jammed in the ice, but I saw in a trice it was called the “Alice May.”
And I looked at it, and I thought a bit, and I looked at my frozen chum;
Then “Here,” said I, with a sudden cry, “is my cre-ma-tor-eum.”

Some planks I tore from the cabin floor, and I lit the boiler fire;
Some coal I found that was lying around, and I heaped the fuel higher;
The flames just soared and the furnace roared—such a blaze you seldom see;

Then I burrowed a hole in the glowing coal, and I stuffed in Sam McGee.

Then I made a hike, for I didn’t like to hear him sizzle so;
And the heavens scowled, and the huskies howled, and the wind began to blow.
It was icy cold, but the hot sweat rolled down my cheeks, and I don’t know why;
And the greasy smoke in an inky cloak went streaking down the sky.

I do not know how long in the snow I wrestled with grisly fear;
But the stars came out and they danced about ere again I ventured near;
I was sick with dread, but I bravely said: “I’ll just take a peep inside.
I guess he’s cooked, and it’s time I looked;” . . . then the door I opened wide.

And there sat Sam, looking cool and calm, in the heart of the furnace roar;
And he wore a smile you could see a mile, and he said: “Please close that door.
It’s fine in here, but I greatly fear you’ll let in the cold and storm—
Since I left Plumtree, down in Tennessee, it’s the first time I’ve been warm.”

There are strange things done in the midnight sun
By the men who moil for gold;
The Arctic trails have their secret tales
That would make your blood run cold;
The Northern Lights have seen queer sights,
But the queerest they ever did see
Was that night on the marge of Lake Lebarge
I cremated Sam McGee.

Vincent (1982)

Vincent Malloy is seven years old
He’s always polite and does what he’s told
For a boy his age, he’s considerate and nice
But he wants to be just like Vincent Price

He doesn’t mind living with his sister, dog and cats
Though he’d rather share a home with spiders and bats
There he could reflect on the horrors he’s invented
And wander dark hallways, alone and tormented

Vincent is nice when his aunt comes to see him
But imagines dipping her in wax for his wax museum

He likes to experiment on his dog Abercrombie
In the hopes of creating a horrible zombie
So he and his horrible zombie dog
Could go searching for victims in the London fog

His thoughts, though, aren’t only of ghoulish crimes
He likes to paint and read to pass some of the times
While other kids read books like Go, Jane, Go!
Vincent’s favourite author is Edgar Allen Poe

One night, while reading a gruesome tale
He read a passage that made him turn pale

Such horrible news he could not survive
For his beautiful wife had been buried alive!
He dug out her grave to make sure she was dead
Unaware that her grave was his mother’s flower bed

His mother sent Vincent off to his room
He knew he’d been banished to the tower of doom
Where he was sentenced to spend the rest of his life
Alone with the portrait of his beautiful wife

While alone and insane encased in his tomb
Vincent’s mother burst suddenly into the room
She said: “If you want to, you can go out and play
It’s sunny outside, and a beautiful day”

Vincent tried to talk, but he just couldn’t speak
The years of isolation had made him quite weak
So he took out some paper and scrawled with a pen:
“I am possessed by this house, and can never leave it again”
His mother said: “You’re not possessed, and you’re not almost dead
These games that you play are all in your head
You’re not Vincent Price, you’re Vincent Malloy
You’re not tormented or insane, you’re just a young boy
You’re seven years old and you are my son
I want you to get outside and have some real fun.

”Her anger now spent, she walked out through the hall
And while Vincent backed slowly against the wall
The room started to swell, to shiver and creak
His horrid insanity had reached its peak

He saw Abercrombie, his zombie slave
And heard his wife call from beyond the grave
She spoke from her coffin and made ghoulish demands
While, through cracking walls, reached skeleton hands

Every horror in his life that had crept through his dreams
Swept his mad laughter to terrified screams!
To escape the madness, he reached for the door
But fell limp and lifeless down on the floor

His voice was soft and very slow
As he quoted The Raven from Edgar Allen Poe:

“and my soul from out that shadow
that lies floating on the floor
shall be lifted?

i *heart* CNY!!!

sometimes, i wonder why some things never change.

i was wholly expecting this year's CNY to be drab n boring since not a whole lotta ppl were excited abt it, thr wasn't as much hype as the years before and it was juz gonna be another gathering in kl minus the usual batu pahat visiting to aunties houses n eating my all-time favourite CNY food, ACAR...but hey, it wasn't a drag...i actually enjoyed myself, even if there was no acar to be seen.
there's something about being together again with all your cousins n uncles n aunties n grandaunts n granduncles n greatgrandma that makes anything fun. yea well, it doesn't take much to make me happy i suppose.
why is CNY so great? allow me to elaborate...(super long elaboration ahead. perhaps u'd like to get some junk or a pillow?)

CNY EVE : 17/02/2007
successfully directed mama to uncle sekcheon's house in seri kembangan without gettin lost or missing a turn! applause for the no-sense-of-direction-whatsover-girl !! (of course, i had the help of a map, but still..) and boy, was their house awesome... i'd forgotten how huge it was.

1 thing's changed, they got a new dawg~ on top of their 3 y/o schnauzer, sammy, which is small like other schnauzers (what's wrong with doggie ha, aiming?), they now haf a shihtzu, nicky, in the same colour. its fun watchin the nicky follow sammy around but not so when nicky stopped to pee n sammy lapped some of it right off of nicky's dick while he's peeing n then proceeded to taste the remainder on the floor. han, ju n i were totally freaked out by it. it's not something you would want to see, trust me.
lesson learned : think twice before you touch a dog's mouth or let it lick you. u don't know where it's been.

reunion dinner. uncle cheon had a whole bunch of caterers come in to prepare for our buffet reunion... if you're thinkin metal trays of food dumped onto your kitchen counter so u can serve them yourself, you're wrong. he had them do the whole malaysian hotel-esque buffet with each type of food on a different table n the chef in white behind it under a mini canopy, uh huh,

complete with ais kacang machine...
like this one,and a whole lamb, freshly roasted in your yard over a pit! i was amazed.
extremely novel reunion dinner if you ask me (uncle cheon's treat cos he juz got promoted)... the lamb was awesome!!! n they also had asam laksa, but the chef dude made it too fishy for my liking. :(

after all the yummy food, corks popped and alcohol flowed... good stuff~ we had martinis, white wine, champaigne and red wine. i liked the white wine best- vy smooth~
i think some of the uncles n aunties got kinda drunk tho, cos they were laughing way too loudly. lolx.

1 regret, we didn't get to do our whole 1bed-aircon-room-talk-talk session with my cousins... instead, half of us went to watch Big Fish (great, timburton babehh) in the tv room while another half watched High School Musical (crappy, corny, lame) in the master bedroom. :*

1st DAY OF CNY : 18/02/2007
woke up at 9.30am or so, showered, dressed n came down.
now what did we do 1st thing in the morning on the 1st day of CNY ?!
wth. us girls didn't even have breakfast (on account of us waking up late n takin too much time to dress n turn pretty) and we had to wash dishes?! out of all the people who had breakfast, WE had to wash dishes... omg. but we were good girls, so we washed dishes. ladida.

i think they had leftover lamb sandwiches or something for breakfast... [scowl]

next up, lim tradition : family portraits!
blinking red timers, running uncles, blinding flashes, shouts, frozen smiles. the usual.

lunch served on the kitchen counter

oh.. n my greatgrandma is such an adorably cute old lady!!! shes so tiny n frail n softspoken n blurr n so so cute~ but abit deaf d la...

me: ah zho, wa ai ka le hip siong (i wanna take pic wif u, hip siong is take pic)
ggma: hah?
penny: HIP SIONG
ggma: [blurr]
auntie seoklian: EE AI KA LE HIP SIONG (she wants to take pic wif u)
ggma: ha?
penny: HIP SIONG
xinli: wa ai ka le HIP SIONG
ggma: si mi?
xinli : HIP SIONG
ggma: [laughs, but still blurr]
uncle seksek: juz take la.. stand in front of her n she will know...
[penny stands in front wif cam held high, i lean over n smile. snap]ggma: ooh... hip siong~
lolx.. she's the best
bea, pen, ggma, ju

we then had the CNY-greeting cum angpow-giving ceremony where evryone went up according to families and seniority to greet the couple on the sofa and offer them sweets n peanuts, each family taking turns. we don't do the random angpow giving thing cos there's too many kids n d uncles n aunties would eventually get confused as to who'd received n who hadn't. so traditional neh~ i remember doing this since i was a teeny tiny kid...ahhh sweet memories.

ggma, uncle cheon, auntie jentee waiting for ppl to come present them with the sweet tray while the others play with balloons (luv d cherry blossoms!)

yea, 1988 lim babies!
pretteh penny, pretteh xinli :), constipated lookin han :P

me, ju, pen, bea

the yi sang was good for once...i always luv tossing it but not eating it. this year's had less ginger or something so it was tastehh plus the abalone was yummehh!!!
put a penny, a bigass comfy pillow n a packet of chrysanthemum tea together n you've got yourselves a happy xinli!

but evryone went home eventually n left bea n our family wif uncleseksek in d house...
SO SAD... i miss evryone already!!!
watched some eps of Yakitate!! from uncle seksek's anime stash wif bea n ju... its actually pretty good n i luv azuma's grandpa. its amazing how the japanese can make whole anime's based on some small thing like bread...or tennis or yoyos or toy cars or cooking or card games ... i dunno, there's probably an anime about anything u can think of.

2nd DAY OF CNY: 19/02/07
home bound... sien sien sien

3rd DAY OF CNY: 20/02/07
visited tonnes of old relatives... grandma's sisters n best friends from childhood = boredom
then went round to mom's cousin's place for dinner n discovered that the uncle there collects ubercool vintage stuff like...
  1. an old record player dat actually plays old-school CNY songs from a black vinyl record! [thumbs up] AND it makes that sound when d record sticks n repeats itself, and dat slowing down sound when u lower d volume!!! i adore!!!!
  2. one of those super heavy irons dat need to be filled with hot coals
  3. a rusty typewriter dats huge
  4. a kickass medium/short wave radio that can't get local stations but stuff from everywhere else... i heard an indonesian 1, n some other crap that i don't understand but the uncle said it might be burmese or vietnamese or something. he also said he listens to the BBC on it every midnight... which might b bullshit but it also could be true~ n that makes it all the more kewl..... i wish my radio could do that... bugger.
i luv old-retro-vintage stuff!!! *hint*hint*

4th DAY OF CNY: 21/02/07
home again...
went jusco with ju to watch some movie, but all the movies are either crap or sold out. wtf is wrong with S2 tgv?!! i wanna watch Babel n TheLastKiss!!! argh~
went to yc's house to mj after... i suck at it~ but still won a few bux

5th DAY OF CNY: 22/02/07

more mj, more card games...
money~ flying away from me... i grab at them as they float... but alas, they escape my clutches...
boo hoo~
yc, lck n yap r major mj kakis. peeling them from the mj table is like... er...peeling flies off flypaper? at 1 point ky, zin, teo n i got sooo darn bored we started to read the malay subtitles for a korean drama ky was watchin off d tv screen- like with expressions n all. lmao. i honestly don't think any of us should go into the malay dubbing industry...

and i could go on n on n on... but i'd tire u. [grins]
i luv luv luv CNY!!!

impressive kiddos

ri juz realised dat im super impressed by kids who can do a whole lotta things even adults can't do...

take today for example, they had a CNY performance during assembly n part of it was a wushu performance by some of d students... n thr was this kid in black n white who was really, REALLY GOOD at it. i was in total awe even though i watched them rehearse d day before. d whole get up wif shiny satin wushu garb makes it 10 times more awesome. he was doin somersaults n that whole twist, flip, kick n slap ur foot routine. cool. plus voonhee said he actually got gold in some wushu event in SUKMA2006, which he probably deserved since he's super geng! then there were other kids who were not so bad, n 1 skinny,short kiddo who was actually pretty good... but i still like d form3 kid in b&w best. too geng.

so now i know y i like child actors n crap, cos they're beyond greatness... here's a few of 'em

Hannah Dakota Fanning (born February 23, 1994)
the very pretty n elegant young lady who i think everyone knows already...
i luv watchin her act... its beautiful. but i cant very well elaborate on her filmography cos it'll take a few pages. but juz to name a few; CSI, ally mcbeal, malcolm in the middle, friends, i am sam, war of the worlds, uptown girls, etc. etc.... n CHARLOTTE'S WEB is coming out soon!

Noah Gray-Cabey (born November 11, 1995)
Gray-Cabey was born in Newry, Maine to Whitney Gray and Shawn Cabey. He started playing the piano when he was eighteen months old. (like wow!)
  • 1st saw him in the sitcom My Wife and Kids (2001), playing a genius cum piano prodigy Franklin Aloyisious Mumford who uses long bombastic words n plays awesome music for his girlfriend.
  • then i saw him on an old ep of 'Ripley's Believe it or Not!'(1999) whr he was featured as a child prodigy
  • n recently on Grey's Anatomy whr he got his skull cracked open, while he was fully conscious mind u. oh oh.. n he had a gay couple as parents..N he was a genius thr too.
  • At age four, he performed in several venues throughout New England and Washington, and journeyed to Jamaica for his first tour with the New England Symphonic Ensemble.
  • plus he's the youngest soloist ever to perform with an orchestra at the Sydney Opera House
  • and he fences! u know, d white suit sword fight thing...
n get this, he's acted in..woahh, noah...

Haley Joel Osment (born April 10, 1988) well, he's d same age as me... but i liked him when he was a kid, not now...
luved him in The Sixth Sense(1999) n A.I. !!!
He has played leading roles in Pay It Forward, Secondhand Lions. He is also notable for providing the voice of Sora, the protagonist in the Kingdom Hearts series (vid game)
n yep, if u've ever seen Forest Gump, u'll realise he's Forest's son who appears at d end of the show..
note: he's ugly now... n has been on trial for DUI n marijuana possession. eek.what's with these child stars? remember macaulay culkin from home alone?...aiyer~

anyhow... kids like these are amazing... esp those who dance hip-hop in music videos n crap..it's juz too adorable..!!!

silver n bronze yo

for 4x100m n 200m respectively
bwahahhaha... can u believe it?
hang on a sec.... muahahahahhahahahhahaha!
sorry abt dat, too psyched.

since when was i good in any sports whatsoever? never. so this is like YAY! lolx...

sports day today. n d house mascots were cool... i luv Director's robot (girl wearin grey sweatshirt n pants wif 2 cardboard boxes taped onto her) who went around waving n acting vy unrobot-like, then thr was d lanky dude in a monkey mask n shades, for John, prancing around; n also d VERY tall guy who looked kinda like lady liberty wif his yellow robe n weirdass spiky headgear for Adrian. rest of d houses were kinda monotonous tho, Edward, Barnitus n Paul all had traditional indian-clothed girls as mascots... but i still think YP is da best mascot~ will post pix of us soon!

downside, i haf tanlines whr i forgot to apply sunscreen...cacat betul. it'll look abit weird cos i plan to wear a tank for CNY in 3 days time. ohwell, i got silver n bronze! ;) what with no training and too much lactic acid in muscles, AND my period. woot. im geng. lolx.

n another thing, i've got rashes on my palms again! i havent had a breakout this bad for a few months now. argh~ n i thought i could go for d family reunion n show my cousins how nice, smooth n rash-free my palms are now cos they've had to c my terrible rash-ridden palms every year. pissed la. n d freakin rashes had to break out few days before. its all an elaborate conspiracy i tell u.

say i m cute..cum on.

u c, u c.... so perasan rite? heheh.. but she is cute la...

look at how cute she is, n how much nicer my hair is now as compared to my cat/emu days

went to watch deathnote2 wif peeps from 5ix yesterday.
the show is nice. yupyup. adore L wif his phone call stance n affinity for sweets, n how gothic lolita misa amane is (u gotta c d stuff she has in her room, i'd nv b able to sleep wif so many creepy dolls)... but then thrs d cliched ending whr d baddie goes monologing about his righteousness n it seems like he's actually gonna win this time (but we all know he's supposed to lose, what with him being the bad guy and all) and its kinda fake in d end when Light is supposed to die of a heartattack but he still has time to writhe in pain on d floor for wut seems like hours. when u think he's finally gonna die as his dad holds him in his arms, he carries on talkin for abit before he actually gets to it.

i feel so bad again cos i find myself forever planning to watch a particular movie wif some person den end up watchin it wif another batch b4 they do... so sorry, ppl...

but i had fun anyway! i'm evil n selfish n i justify wrongdoings all too well for my own good... muahaha.

thrs wenyun, liping, janice n urs truly. siewsin is behind d cam
omg... look at my eyes.. how do i see thru those slits?

so after dat, i had to rush to tuition n was late abit...n after tuition, headed over to era to watch our beloved ky perform her chinese fan dance ...n obviously, d banner was nowhere to b seen as plh n zin have ditched dat idea! lucky ky...
d event was abit off tho, not much of an event cos thr weren't a whole lot of ppl thr n i felt sorry for d local artiste dat was thr to sing, cos most of d ppl thr were aunties wif their kids. boohoo. lolx

dead bird

dead bird in stairwell. ripped to pieces. scattered downy feathers. a pretty sight.

stopped mrNg from sweepin it away to take pix wif ky's hp. lolx
a cat must haf got to it cos it was fully dismembered with nothing intact, body disembowelled, flesh lickd clean to d ribcage. no sight of d feet tho....wonder whr they got to. i nv knew cats had a liking for birdie feet, but of course, it mightn't have been a cat at all. *raised eyebrows*. any news of satanic rituals or the like? lolx, juz kiddin.
head on the left, body- right... aint d feathers pretty?
gore... feathers n blood

lonely wing

dat was rite after zin successfully side-parked his car, with plh outside giving orders like a parking attendant ...
'masuk, masuk...berhenti... boleh masuk lagi..'
yea.. she was seriously barking in malay. freakin farney. i was juz sittin at d back laughing my head off cos zin had this really serious face like the world depended on him parkin it perfectly, right down to the centimetre. n he got out beaming like a kid n skipped (no really, i mean SKIPPED from side to side, up n down...like those cartoons whr d lil girl with d flower basket skips off into d horizon n d circle cutout minimises until its a pinhole n finally blips off into blackness n the words 'the end' appear along with orchestra music ending) lmao.
honestly if the walls were clean n thr wasnt a drain along them, ky n i would've gone right over to 'zhong bek'...freakin zadao...

tmr, ky is gonna perform at era for this cny function thingey. plh n zin r tryin to get as many ppl to go as possible to gif 'support', otherwise translated as embarassment on ky's behalf... lol. they were plannin on loud cheering n a banner. banner! wtf. poor ky. but it prob wont get carried out...u should've seen her panic-stricken face in chem..... i'll b goin to watch her after chem tmr.... loud cheering ahead~

also... meetin up wif liping, janice n other 5ix chix tmr at jusco~ haven't seen janice in AGES....

yep yep... many things to do tmr...

plus the cny wind's ablowing ~ cold la. i get goosebumps in evry morning in d assembly ground n my lips r all a-crackin... not dat they dont crack 360 days a year, but it bled this time round n personally, i don't like the taste of blood at all. which is why it's a good thing im not a vampire or i'd starve to death.

speakin of vampires, having 2 movies out dat haf d word 'blood' in em is mighty confusin (for me anyway)... when someone tells me dat they watchd 'blood diamond' , my mind flips to 'blood n chocolate' n when they go on n on abt how touchin it was, i picture werewolves n crap. which is probably cos i haven't watched either of them, n don't plan to cos im not a fan of dicaprio. i didn't even like him much in titanic, n we juz did a cloze on dicaprio, or rather d titanic movie in muet today. n if u think abt it, boy, has he warped...no, not changed..warped.

from struggling artist
to diamond smugglerone thing tho, u don't see him changing his hair much.

n dat, my friends, is how u go from a dead bird to dicaprio.

-uh huh-
